      Other peptide internalizations into specific cell populations have, for example, been observed in vivo after intraventricular and intrahippocampal injections of galanin [56,96]. Furthermore, in vitro, peptide internalization has been observed for neurotensin [11,35], substance P [79] and interleukin-1 [101]. The internalization of a ligand–receptor complex has in fact been suggested to be used as a marker for receptor activation (see [100]).
