The serotonin transporter in depression: Meta-analysis of in vivo and post mortem findings and implications for understanding and treating depression
2015, Journal of Affective DisordersCitation Excerpt :The small number of post mortem studies did not allow a separate meta-analysis. Both post mortem studies showed no significant difference between patients and controls (Lawrence et al., 1990; Rosel et al., 1997). For the cingulate gyrus n=10 in vivo samples and n=3 post mortem samples were identified.

2009, Progress in NeurobiologyStress sensitive female macaques have decreased fifth Ewing variant (Fev) and serotonin-related gene expression that is not reversed by citalopram
2009, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Although somewhat paradoxical, in cases where 5-HT is compromised, SERT is also reduced. Several approaches have shown that there is a reduced density of SERT in patients with depression and in the postmortem brain tissue of suicide victims (Lawrence et al., 1990; Drevets et al., 1992; Hrdina et al., 1993; Arango et al., 2002). Much attention has been placed on a polymorphism in the SERT gene, which may lead to a decrease in SERT expression (Bondy et al., 2000).
